2025 Ford Escape vs 2025 Toyota Rav4

Anyone looking for a family-friendly yet fuel-efficient vehicle will want to look at compact SUVs. Two of the leading names in this segment are the Ford Escape and the Toyota RAV4. This article will break down each vehicle, some of their biggest selling points, and which is best.

2025 Ford Escape

The 2025 Ford Escape has six trims. Depending on the trim you select, your Ford Escape will come with one of three engine options, the 1.5L EcoBoost engine, the 2.0L EcoBoost engine, or the Plug-in Hybrid 2.5L IVCT Atkinson-Cycle I-4 engine. The 1.5L EcoBoost engine produces 180 horsepower, whereas the 2.0L EcoBoost delivers 250 horsepower. These engines achieve 27/34 mpg (city/highway) and 23/31 mpg (city/highway), respectively. However, if you opt for the Plug-in Hybrid Escape, you'll settle for 163 horsepower but gain superior fuel efficiency, at 101 combined miles per gallon equivalent.

2025 Toyota RAV4

Toyota's latest RAV4 has 11 trims, which include four gas-powered and seven electrified models. The traditional RAV4 trims all come with a 2.5L 4-cylinder motor that generates 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Conversely, every hybrid RAV4 trim has the same engine as its gas-powered siblings, but it is combined with an electric motor to achieve 219 combined net horsepower. Depending on the specific RAV4 you choose, it will reach between a combined 30 to 39 miles per gallon.

While Toyota's RAV4 offers more trims than the Ford Escape, fewer engine options exist. Likewise, for those prioritizing safety, every Ford Escape comes standard with the Ford Co-Pilot360, a comprehensive suite of safety and driver assistance technology. For engine choices and driver assistance technology, the Ford comes out on top.
