1. Spend a Day at City Park
This popular 41-acre park offers fun for all ages. Take a stroll along City Lake or play at Ben’s Red Swings, one of the area’s largest community playgrounds. You can also visit the skate park or ride the miles of mountain biking trails. You’ll also find tennis courts, a dog park, picnic pavilions, and fishing access. 2. Visit the Local Zoo
The town zoo, which is located within City Park, also provides free admission and free parking. You’ll have the opportunity to see dozens of mammal, reptile, and bird species including bears, monkeys, goats, wolves, turtles, bison, and many more animal friends. The zoo address is 755 S Park Dr. It features accessible walking paths, a cafe, a gift shop, restrooms, and free Wi-Fi access.
3. Step Back in Time at Pemberton Historical Park
Another free local attraction, Pemberton Historical Park gives you the chance to explore the 262-acre grounds of Pemberton Hall, a 1741 historic home. The park features more than 4 miles of nature trails, picnic areas, a nature center, an outdoor amphitheater, and a pond with catch-and-release fishing.
You can also tour the inside of the property, which is the only 18th-century home on the Eastern seaboard that’s open to the public. The park is located at 5561 Plantation Ln.
4. Play Disc Golf at Schumaker Park
Enjoy the free 18-hole disc golf course at Schumaker Park for fun, fresh air, and exercise. This 11-acre site is also a great place to have a picnic, with a covered pavilion, tables, benches, and a grill. It’s located at 1019 S Schumaker Dr.
5. Enjoy the Wicomico County Fair
This annual event offers free admission and parking, so it’s one of the most affordable family days you’ll find. You can watch eating competitions, duck races, animal grooming demonstrations, a rodeo, fireworks, and live entertainment throughout the weekend.
The event also features a kids’ zone with inflatables, a Jeep show, a cattle show, a benefit auction, and Farm and Home Show competitions. The county fair will take place August 16-18 at WinterPlace Park, 6737 Blue Ribbon Rd.
